Barcelona is without question an international benchmark for the architectural integration of old and new, and for its innovative additions to its skyline, as impressive new buildings continue to spring up. In the last decade alone, Jean Nouvel's Agbar Tower, Josep Llinas's Lesseps Library, Torres and Lapena's Forum Esplanade and Herzog and De Meuron's controversial Forum Building (often considered the icon of this new Barcelona) have all popped up--just a few notable instances of this present fervor for construction. Other contemporary architects who have recently designed buildings in Barcelona include Dominique Pewault, Toyo Ito, Frank O. Gehry and Carmen Pinos. BCN 10+10 looks back over the past 10 years of new architecture in Barcelona, and surveys the several projects to come in the next 10 years: among them three further projects by Jean Nouvel and Zaha Hadid's recently commissioned waterfront Spiralling Tower, planned for 2008.
